HOW TO CATCH A FOOTBALL

This video provides a great overview of the catching fundamentals, specifically hand positioning.

It also provides an easy drill that emphasizes these fundamentals and ball tracking.

This is a great video that reviews 4 key fundamentals about catching.

  1. Catch the ball with your eyes
  2. Late hands to the ball (we see a lot of our younger players not doing this)
  3. Catch the ball in front of your body
  4. Catch the ball clean

The end of the video references drills that can be found below.

This is a continuation of the video above. It provides drills that are great for developing your catching skills.

  1. Single Hand Pop Drill (might be tough for younger players to do this drill)
  2. Two Finger Catch Drill (this is a difficult drill to do this)
  3. Three Way Catches
  4. Body Turn Reaction Catches
  5. Head Turn Reaction Catches
  6. Laying on the Ground Catching Drill

This video features 2 easy drills to practice catching a football by yourself called the “lonely kid workout”
